Greetings from Waterbury Mural Connecticut Welcome Sign

Greetings from Waterbury, CT. We kicked off our second year of the Greetings Tour with our first mural in New England. The Waterbury mural is our largest mural to date at around 875 square feet. You can catch a glimpse of it from the I-84 highway and also drive right up to it by taking exit 21 right to Field Street in downtown Waterbury.

We arrived at a large blank canvas that was power washed and primed for us by the city. We invited our friend Dominic Corry out from New York to assist with this large mural. His father lived not too far away in Connecticut, so he had already spent a lot of time in Connecticut. On the first day, we ran into some minor issue with a boom lift, but they brought in a second scissor lift to replace it. It’s not too unusual that we run into mechanical issues with lifts, but we always find a way to work around it.

The sun was blazing on this wall in the middle of summer. The wall itself didn’t get too much shade so this was a rough mural to work through. We usually paint from sunrise to sunset. Thankfully, the Marriott was able to sponsor us with rooms to get some nice AC & showers throughout the project. It was also nice that the hotel was only walking distance from the wall.

Whenever we go through the design process of murals with our clients, we learn a lot about the cities that we paint in. Without an exception, we learned of Waterbury’s rich history through this project. One of the unique images we painted in the “R” was a popular vintage Mickey Mouse watch that was produced here. Waterbury Clock Company was one of its biggest producers, manufacturing over 20,000 clocks per day by the end of the 19th century.

Thank you to the Waterbury Public Art Committee for believing we would make a difference in the Brass City. A special thank you to Lynnette, Kathy and Ken for covering all of our needs during the painting process and hosting a wonderful week in Waterbury! They put on a huge party to unveil the mural to the public and even Mayor Neil O'Leary came by to acknowledge the mural as progress for their community.

We are ever so grateful for the magnificent mural that Victor and Lisa created for our city. It makes a bold, beautiful and historical welcoming for tourists and locals alike. It has been constantly used for photo backdrops and has now become one our city’s most recognizable landmarks. The community spirit, participation, and excitement generated by your mural has helped us forward our mission of creative place making within our city.
