Mural Artist For Hire
My name is Victor Ving and I am a traveling mural artist for hire that specializes in large scale graffiti & street art using spray paint. My personal nationwide mural project is called the Greetings Tour. I seek to create public art throughout the world inspired by classic American postcards from the mid-century. However, the murals have a modern interactive twist since they are created with updated imagery using spray paint. In addition, the large scale artwork is perfect for photo ops and Instagram selfies. I work globally while based across the United States traveling full time out of a RV while on tour. Otherwise, I am usually situated in Southern California but still available for commissions throughout the world.
As a mural artist for hire, I also hand paint commercial murals. I’m able to replicate anything from abstract, logos to high detail photorealism. My medium of choice is spray paint so I prefer to paint outdoors when possible. However, indoor murals are also possible if there’s enough ventilation in the space. Otherwise, I can always create designs that are either printed or executed by a team of artists that specialize in traditional brush applications. I’m open to taking select mural projects if it aligns with my aesthetic and values. However, these days I’m more focused on either travel focused or community based artwork.
I am also a minority Asian American (AAPI) artist as a first generation of my family to be born and raised in America (New York City.) I always drew as a child and then got infatuated with graffiti art in my teens. I never had any formal art education but learned all of my skills through the trial and error of graffiti & street art. To be honest, I don’t think art schools really taught spray paint as a medium while I was in school. I ended up attending a business school and worked a 9-5 corporate job for about 8 years. I really disliked the office environment and decided to quit my job to pursue art full time. It was one of the best decisions I made in my life and my only regret was not to follow my dreams earlier!
Spray Paint Murals vs. Brush Murals
A lot of people don’t see the difference between spray paint and brush when the completed artwork is photographed or viewed from afar. However, there are pros and cons to each method. When you look at gradients and blends up close, spray paint is generally far superior and you notice a very smooth transition. However, for large blends (unless you have all the necessary steps of colors) you are probably better off using an airless sprayer of sorts instead of cans of spray paint. You can also mix a lot of colors on the spot with brush where as you are working with a limited supply of pre-determined colors when using spray paint. Furthermore, if you use masking and spray paint, you get much crispier lines and faster straight lines than painting freestyle with a brush. A lot of purists look down on using tape, but if it gets the job done faster and cleaner, I have no problem using it!
There are techniques to work with both oils, latex and spray paint in different temperatures. It all comes down to the use of different additives, caps and tools. We have actually tested side by side murals with both spray paint and brush and it generally takes about the same amount of time (depending on the intricacy of the design.) One of the main disadvantages is the scarcity of spray paint colors in certain markets because you can’t mix custom colors on the spot. However, there’s also nothing wrong with mixing spray paint and brush together when needed. Finally, one of the best advantages of using spray paint is that it has a far superior ability to get into extremely textured surfaces with ease.
Mural Artist for Hire Agency
I also run a nationwide mural agency with a global network of artists with graffiti roots who specialize in murals and mural design. A portion of the proceeds of the work goes a yearly community mural grant. Because I collaborate with many local artists in the various cities I paint in, I have built a national network of extremely talented and reliable artists. I can handle all aspects of design and project management for mural projects when I can’t personally travel to a location.
Our mural agency is also fully insured and covers workers comp for the artists that we work with. To date, some of the large clients we have worked with include Champion, Shake Shack, Johnson & Johnson, Facebook, LinkedIn, Mod Pizza, Nike and more! We pride ourselves on excellent communication skills and making sure the project is done right and on time. Furthermore, our goal is to exceed our clients expectations when it comes to bringing their vision to life.
LONGEVITY OF MURALS & MAINTENANCE
One of the most common questions asked is how long a mural will last. There is no short answer to this question as it depends on several factors. Firstly, the preparation of the surface prior to applying primer is most important of all. We recommend power washing, cleaning and repairing any structural issues before even applying a primer. Secondly, the right primer and proper time to cure is important. We are not contractors, so we would recommend researching with some local companies to see what would be best. Thirdly, we use top of the line exterior latex paints and spray paints (acrylic enamels). Over time, all paint will eventually fade but some colors faster than others. Next, to extend the duration of the vibrant colors, we recommend using a UV sealant. Certain walls that face South (in the Northern Hemisphere) will get a lot more sun than North facing walls. Finally, if you prefer we can recommend a graffiti proof sealant if you are worried about vandalism for exterior murals.
