Airbnb Open
Greetings from Open Spotlight Los Angeles in DTLA! Airbnb Open is a festival of hosting where the Airbnb hosts gather to see guest speakers and performers. There were events like Smorgasburg LA, informative talks, movie screenings of Lala Land and much more. On Saturday evening, they opened the event to the public for a small business street festival called Open Spotlight sponsored by American Express. Thank you for showcasing all the local artists including ourselves. This event completely took over downtown LA. There were free concerts featuring several musicians including Best Coast, Maroon 5 and even a surprise performance by Lady Gaga!
We designed “Greetings from DTLA” temporary tattoos with Tattly for the event. In addition, we printed thousands of postcards of the mural we painted for the event. Attendees filled out their messages to friends, family and some even wrote to the White House. We stamped and sent them all out after the event.
A special shout out and thank you to LA Fabricators for allowing us to paint at your shop space. As usual, we also invited some local Los Angeles artists to assist in the mural painting. It’s never a true Greetings Tour project unless we involve locals and the immediate community.
This was a fun project to work on which was a refreshing break from public art for cities. We were able to stay true to our existing postcard style but utilize it uniquely. The mural artwork was a popular photo op and guests would take their photos non-stop in front of the wall. Check out the time-lapse video of the mural being painted below.
