Vogue x Ralph Lauren
We teamed up with Vogue in Spring 2018 for a video shoot with Ralph Lauren. During a trip back home to New York City in February, we met the Vogue team at their offices to discuss dreams of a video shoot that we quickly made reality a month later in March. After 2 flight cancellations due to a snow storm, we still turned around three separate murals used as backdrops for the shoot.
Our Greetings Tour mural project was a perfect match for their visions of a 'Wish You Were Here' shoot concept. Firstly, we painted one graphic Art Deco style postcard image for Cap d'Antibes. Secondly, we painted a “Greetings from Malibu” large letter postcard mural in the background of the shoot. Victor got in the background of the shoot himself as a working Brooklyn mural artist. Finally, we painted another classic “Greetings from Capri” large letter postcard style mural with the imagery competed inside the letters.
The irony of filming on a cold, dreary winter day played into the concept of this dream sequence. We all wished that we could actually be in these warm locations on vacation! The same model was shot in front of all the different murals in various outfits that tied to the artwork. She was a trooper through the cold and very friendly to work with!
This project also had a deeper meaning to Victor. He’s been a huge fan of Ralph Lauren and collected a lot of his pieces from the 90’s. He even went to the same university as Ralph (Baruch) and at one point ran a website called Vintage Gear Addicts. The website was a forum dedicated to Polo Ralph Lauren pieces that was for the die hard collectors. Growing up in NYC, there was already a connection in the graffiti world to the brand. However, it was an honor to come full circle to do a project with their brand.
Special thanks to Casey Bolding and David Wang who helped prepped some of these walls for us while our flights were delayed in getting back to NY. We also provided the temporary wall space for these murals through our local contacts.
We often get asked where these murals are located in Malibu and Capri but people get disappointed that they were only painted for a temporary shoot. However, we would love to actually paint them in the geographic locations where they belong one day! Thank you again to Vogue and Ralph Lauren for making this project a reality.
