Pasadena & Altadena Filming & Photo Mural Backdrop Locations

This is a guide for location scouts to find Pasadena & Altadena relevant mural backdrops for production purposes. These public art murals make a great location to set scenes (B-roll) in the Pasadena area. The artwork features all family friendly and non-controversial imagery relevant to the cities of Pasadena and Altadena. Greetings from Pasadena Postcard Mural

Address: 130 E Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91104 (in Morgan Alley visible from Arroyo Pkwy as you travel North)

Aternate Address: 125 Morgan Alley, Pasadena, CA 91105

Exposure: South facing wall

Size: 14’ H x 22’ W (starting +/- 3’ ft off the ground)

Filming & Photo Notes: The best lighting would be in the morning to avoid shadows from trees that come in the late afternoon (varies based on the season.) The mural is accessible from a public street/alley that has low traffic. This is a good location for any vehicle shots as cars can easily pull up to it. There is a large parking lot at the location that can be rented for staging from Unified Parking.


Pasadena Art Deco Mural

Address: 1543 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91106

Exposure: East facing wall

Filming & Photo Notes: The mural is accessible from a public street and there is no parking (red curb) directly in front of the mural to avoid any obstructions. The business is an independently owned boba cafe “Bubble Puff & Tea” which has a back lot and may be open to renting out the location for staging purposes. This piece is also directly across from the Pasadena City College campus.


Pasadena & Altadena Travel Decal Murals

Exposure: North facing wall

Filming & Photo Notes: The mural is located in a lot that’s on the side of a local coffee shop Highlight Coffee. There are two separate murals dedicated to Pasadena and Altadena respectively. These are fairly small murals and best for close up shots.


Greetings from Altadena Postcard Mural

Address: 2270 Lake Ave. Altadena, CA 91001

Exposure: West facing wall

Filming & Photo Notes: The mural is located in a large lot for Grocery Outlet with plenty of parking. The business is often hosting for staging & production so it should not be a problem to shoot here. There is a photo realistic bear painted by the same artists adjacent to the mural (right side.) The main mural is also illuminated at night with low voltage lighting.


Altadena Art DEco Mural

Filming & Photo Notes: This tall mural is located in a public alley and walkable area that’s often used as a filming location. The business is a hardware store (Altadena Hardware) and the property owner is very friendly to productions.


Pasadena’s Largest Mural

Filming & Photo Notes: While this may no longer be the largest mural in Pasadena, it’s the biggest one that’s Pasadena-centric. It’s located in a private lot managed by WOHL Property Group. There’s several individual sections that can be used as backdrops. Note that there are parking spots in front of the wall so you will need to arrange if you need the entire area clear. Most of the artwork starts up high and should be visible regardless of parked cars.
